US History

As a Social Studies teacher for the past nine years, I have had the opportunity to teach a variety of courses including College Preparatory United States History II, Modified United States History II, Sociology, Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Anthropology, Military History, and Middle School Untied States History. I have my Bachelors's Degree from the College of New Jersey in History and Secondary Education and my Master's degree in Social Studies Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Over my teaching career, I have had the pleasure of being honored with being an Alfred Lerner Fellow for Holocaust Education, an attendee of programs led by Gilder Lehrman and The National Endowment of the Humanities and I have had lesson plans published by both organizations.

I have been responsible for both creating new as well as redesigning existing curricula. I have extensive experience working with students with special needs, designing strategies to fit all learners. In addition to my work in the classroom, I have implemented several authentic experiences to bring Social Studies alive for students and out of the textbook. My courses focus on developing students for a vastly changing world in the 21st century, designed to have students think critically in order to become lifelong democratic and productive global citizens.

I also believe that the way in which students are taught currently is changing, and I would like my classroom and our study hall to be part of that change. It is not enough to be just a teacher -- a disseminator of content. School now is not simply preparing students for the “real world” but setting them up with many different foundations for the multitude of paths they can take after. Gone are the days where a teacher was solely responsible for making sure students “knew” their content. This is a change that I want to be a part of and help support. Advances in technology have also fundamentally restructured the classroom and the role of the teacher at the front of it. I believe in an authentic, meaningful, and thoughtful classroom that tries to help students make sense of how the world around them came to be.
