Hi, my name is Nick Wilson. I am a History teacher in North Carolina. This is my 10th year in education teaching at the high school level. I have taught all disciplines of history in the high school setting but Advanced Placement United States History has always been one of my main focuses. I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2014 with a bachelor of arts in History and received a Masters Degree in Secondary Education in 2015. I am also a basketball coach at the high school level so I can be a great motivator to help further your education and learning opportunities. My individualized and passionate teaching style, both in person and online, has given me a reputation among my students as a motivating, patient, and attentive teacher. In my first year as an AP teacher, I was chosen by my peers as Teacher of the Year in my district. Students say I am an effective motivator, with my enthusiasm and passion for the subject, I instill that same passion in my students, and show them how they can all succeed. As a result, 100% of my students every year take the AP test, and 85% of them pass. The majority of the 11th grade at my school apply to take my class. As an AP grader, I'm proud to say that due to my grading accuracy and knowledge of the rubrics I was recommended for Table Leader at the most recent reading. Students are taking on a real academic challenge with this course, and I must show them exactly what they need to do to meet that challenge. Above all, I ground my pedagogy in the belief that every student can master academic writing and succeed.

While it can be a tad loud in the mornings, ultimately, I'm glad that I made such a great impact on my students. I've taught for a total of 8 years so far, teaching both U.S. History and World History. I attended Rutgers University, where I earned a Master's Degree in Education and a Bachelor's Degree in History. One of my main strengths as a teacher is that I keep up with the varying interests and trends of secondary-aged students. I use this as a tool to help connect the learners with the material, working to make the content much more relatable. I am an advocate for using inquiry-based learning, where together, we can investigate topics and make informed conclusions.
